Brave Mama in My Family Story #20 - Holly Elson

The Topknot Girl is no stranger to many on social media. Holly is the talented & creative mama behind the brand and she is always ready to lend a listening ear & provide advice to other business mums who are starting out.

I'm excited today to have Holly share her brave mama story. Her story is one that I can definitely identify with. And I'm sure many mums running their own business or working in the corporate world can identify with. And that is going at it, when the going gets tough. Because balancing work/business and family is one of the the trickiest juggling act ever.

Please join me as we welcome Holly to our Brave Mama in My Family series.

1. Tell us about yourself, where you are based and a little about your little one(s)/ the work that you do.

I'm Holly, I'm 29 and live in Port Macquarie on the NSW Mid North Coast.

I'm married to Nathan, the other half of TopKnot Girl, and we have two Kids, William (5) and Poppy (2).

I'm the owner and producer for our brand, TopKnot Girl. I hand make all our Headwear from my home studio, mostly with the babes underfoot.

2. What is the most difficult/challenging thing you had to deal with in your mama-hood journey?

I think so much of motherhood relies on this - sacrifice. Sacrificing your body to bring a baby into the world, your sleep and time and energy to grow and nurture that tiny human and your dreams and desires, often, because they always come first!

Definitely, the most difficult thing has been the juggle of the longing to be an amazing mama and the heavy inspired passion I have for my business.

3. What is the bravest thing you had to do as a mama?

Bravest. Hmm. I rarely think of myself as brave. Probably the all nighters you have to pull when you're up with a sick little, and the fact you've got them to care for the next day. I think the bravest thing would be not giving up, plugging on through the good days and the not so good days!

4. Is there another brave mama who inspires you? How has she inspired you?

For sure! I am often inspired by many mamas when I read their stories and relate to their moments. I think Chloe from @chloeandbeans is incredibly inspiring! 6 babes in 4 years. Insane! She's definitely one that puts things into perspective and really gets my mum mojo back into gear!

5. What would you say to another mama who may be going through similar circumstances?

Take it day by day. Really does the washing matter? Can the floors wait? Enjoy the moments, choose your battles and keep reaching for those dreams and goals, we will all get there!

6. What is the one word/phrase for you in your mama-hood journey?

"The days are long, but the years are short" knowing how true this is keeps things in perspective and always makes me stop still on the path I'm travelling and say "ah, yea"!

///

I used to 'secretly' roll my eyes, but smile politely, when someone would tell me that the days are long, but the years are short. Especially when I had a crying baby in my carrier, and a toddler crying his heart out while waiting in line at the supermarket. But as I watch my little ones grow, I cannot help but agree with it. Because, every season has its time and place. And even though some seasons are hard, time will pass and seasons will change. And so I'm learning to take joy in the present and be thankful for all the blessings and celebrate all the little victories!

No matter what season you are in, I hope you will find joy, gratitude and moments to celebrate! We hope to celebrate all your little wins and big wins in any season. And if you, like me, love confetti and champagne when it comes to celebration, have a peek here

Yay! Heart Box

Have a wonderful week! And may you be Killin' it this coming week!

x Meng
